Software: Unreal Engine 5​

Project Goal:

Create a dynamic coastal environment that showcases the transition of lighting over time

(from day to sunset) while incorporating a variety of surface types and subtle animated elements to enhance realism and atmosphere.

​

Key Objectives

1) Lighting Progression:

   -Simulate natural daylight progression from mid-day to golden hour and into sunset.

   -Use time-of-day lighting to emphasize environmental mood and depth.

   -Ensure shadows and reflections adapt accurately with the light direction and intensity changes.

​

2) Surface Variety:

    -Integrate multiple terrain materials to demonstrate light interaction on different surfaces:

  • Water: Real-time reflection/refraction with changing sky and light angle.

  • Wet Sand: Subtle sheen and darker coloration closer to waterline.

  • Dry Rocky Sand & Cliffs: Variation in roughness, albedo, and ambient occlusion to convey natural texture and depth.

3) Ambient Animation:

   -Introduce subtle life through an animated idle seagull.

   -Purpose: Enhance immersion and visual interest without distracting from the primary lighting study.​
